Lifescapes - Inspirational Coaching for the Spiritual Traveler.
You ain't misbehavin'. You're believin'!
See that cute little fella to your left? That’s my grandfather back in 1920. Even at that age, before he could convey to the world his dreams each night, or understand those imaginative games that kept him occupied on that old wooden porch, his journey had begun. In his immediate future, just 10 feet ahead, are tall green blades of grass, soft colorful petals plucked from the rainbow, prickly critters, dusty dirt clouds, whishing leaves, creaky crickets and hollow bellowing frogs. Heat swirls around his soft rubbery face and perhaps a splinter is nestled in his finger from one of the planks. All these things that to a toddler had no significance in names, warnings, or in likes or dislikes; only curiosity to be pull into a world by temptations that dazzled the eyes, seasons’ flavors teasing his nose, nature’s giggles whispering in his ears, and a cascade of sensations for those chubby fingers to grasp, tug, and innocently destroy some delicate petal just a step away. Best of all, it was all there for the asking. All there to fill his spirit with curiosity and nurture his born-given values to test his boldness to explore. To take just one step off the porch… Ah, that first step and have fear be something so small (maybe a pop on the hand) that you cast it to the side and honor the adventurer within. You freely serve your inner wisdom and know by faith, or pure bliss, that it’s okay. No thought of consequences. You have your cozy porch waiting for you, if you want to return for support. You take that step…and things are going great. You have the grass between your toes, the wispy clouds cooling your path, your target just on the horizon…and then it happens. You stub your toe, teeter, and the next thing you know you’re picking grass out of your teeth…and worst yet…did anyone see?! So what happens now? Well, that depends. We all take some kind of action with our dreams and goals. Oh, yes we do. I can prove it. We can't escape the responsibility of having to face them. Check out these approaches: • Inch Worm Approach - You have a dream and have decided to take action. You step off the porch and wiggle your toes in the grass. Butterflies swell up in your belly. Questions emerge. Is this possible? Am I really doing this? You move forward. You stop. You contemplate. You savor the moment. You hesitate. You may stop for awhile, but the burning desire to succeed moves you one more inch. • Trail Blazing Approach – You’re off the porch, in the grass, kicking up dust, with a wet finger in the air, and pushing on. You fall down. You’re back up. You move forward. You see a fork in the road. Which turn do you take? Just take one! Your goal still hanging in there. You run into an obstacle. Goal’s a little fuzzy. You take this route. Or maybe that route. Just make a decision! Okay, what’s the dream again? Get up, kick off the dust and move on! • Unheard Scream Approach - You have a dream, but each day you do nothing. Your spirit is filled with as many splinters as those collecting in your rump sitting on that porch. You’re feeling a little grouchy. You can’t think about it now. After you get this, accomplish that, then you can dream again and have a better plan. Your dream starts to fade, deeper into the abyss of your soul where it becomes an unheard scream to the rest of the world. Sadly, that is the action you have chosen to take. Any of these sound familiar? You may have one of your own that you have tried. Or maybe you’re the multi-tasker, and have tried them all on one desire and fell prey to pure exhaustion, ambushed to settle for the Unheard Scream. How long can you survive there? How long do you want to survive there? Know this, action and commitment can change, but your dream and desire never truly dies. There is a path created just for you to explore, conquer, and relish. Sitting on the porch, our gifts, desires and dreams are nesting, warmed by our born given values and character. But, as we step out we face influences that may alter those values in the face of responsibility. We must now be grown ups!For some, our intellect tells us we can’t have both. We can’t live in harmony being responsible and striving for our desires. So through upbringing and cultural influences, we push our desire farther down into the abyss. And worse yet, others may be watching and judging. Can you hear those folks back on the porch with your best interest at heart, rocking in unison in old rockers, forming deeper grooves in the planks? “We all enjoy eating and having a roof over our head. Are you sure about all this? You want to do what? How in the world do you think that can happen? Where do you get these ideas? Why must you rock the boat?!” Don’t worry, by getting off the porch you ain’t misbehavin’, you’re believin’! The greatness in you is yearning to be honored. With me as your Inspiration Coach, it will be honored with respect, freedom and a safe space to explore and grow. I have been in training for your inner discovery and growth since I knew there was a God, and He was coaching us all to live out the dreams He planned for us!
